First Published: 1921 under Gutmann & Gutmann Print Publisher #771 Original Reproduction Print Value: $1000 - $1500 Misc: Bessie's mastery of light and shadow is very evident in this classic portrait of a little girl with ringlet curls of golden hair, very typical of the period. Bessie resisted the many offers to do commissioned portraits, because she felt the problems of dealing with parents and deadlines were too restrictive and not worth the anxiety. Instead, she decided to create a series of paintings that had the quality of portraiture work. This is one of her best examples. This portrait should not to be confused with another "Goldilocks" title, published in 1933, where a little girl is eating from one of three bowls of porridge (part of a series of nursery stories).
