Misc: Cherubs and cupids were Gutmann's response to a public that had grown tired of children images and all their daily activities. However, this new subject would have to maintain the charm of her earlier babies and children. Unlike the hard-edge pen and ink illustrations of day, Bessie chose to use soft charcoal pencil, filled in with color washes and other delicate tones. The finest and most popular example of this technique was her 1912 painting, "The Butterfly".
