First Published: 1918 Original Reproduction Print Value: $275 - 375 Misc: This is one of Bessie's most admired works. It is also one of the few illustrations she did in oil (oil on canvas over charcoal), instead of her usual works done with pastels, charcoal and watercolors. It shows her great skill and versatility as an artist. Bessie used a photograph taken outdoors of her first daughter Alice (fully clothed) holding a puppy as reference for this painting. Alice was approaching her teens when this illustration first appeared on the cover of Pictorial Review in January 1918. It was issued by Gutmann & Gutmann later that year as a print.
