First Published: 1936 Original Reproduction Print Value: $150 - 200 Misc: This image and "In Disgrace" (published a year earlier in 1935) were often sold together as a pair. Together, these two prints were Bessie's second most popular images. Only "A Little Bit of Heaven" and "Awakening" sold more copies. Bessie used her daughter Lucille and the neighbor's collie dog as models for "In Disgrace". A poem written by M. Leona Harig that same year about the illustration suggested that the little girl and her dog "Rusty" had been playing with a ball that bounced into her mother's flower garden. When Rusty had broken and crushed the flowers while trying to retrieve the ball, the mother sent her "naughty" daughter to stand in the corner, "...Till it was time for Tea."
That he was quite to blame; So he came and sat close by me And hung his head in shame...
My little doggy Rusty's just As sweet as he can be Not Long ago, perhaps you know, He shared disgrace with me, There's nothing that I wouldn't do For one so true and trusty; So now I have an ice cream cone, I'm sharing with Rusty. Our Fine Art Giclée Reproduction Prints:
